Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-09-26. This Privacy Policy covers both the Stencil AI - Photo to Stencil iPhone app ("the app") and this website. Both are made and run by Joseph AG., an independent developer ("the developer"). It explains what happens to your photos, what the app and the website collect, which third-party services are involved, and how to reach the developer with any question or request at denw3n@gmail.com.

The short version

  • You do not need an account, and the app never asks for your name or email.
  • The photo you convert is uploaded to a protected cloud function, processed to produce your stencil, and used for nothing else. It is never sold.
  • Your stencils live on your iPhone in the app's Collection. You decide what gets saved to your camera roll, shared or deleted.
  • The app includes Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, the Facebook SDK and RevenueCat. Purchases go through Apple, so the developer never sees your card details.
  • This website uses cookieless Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. It sets no cookies and has no accounts or forms.

What happens to the photos I convert?

When you pick a photo and tap Convert to Stencil, the app uploads that photo to a cloud function run by the developer. The call is authenticated and protected by Firebase App Check, which means only genuine copies of the app can reach it. The photo is processed by an AI image model to produce your stencil, and the result is sent back to your phone. This does mean your photo leaves your phone for processing; this policy does not claim otherwise.

Uploaded photos are used only to generate the stencil you asked for. The developer does not use them for any other purpose and does not sell them.

The stencil itself is stored on your device, in the app's Collection. Nothing is saved to your camera roll unless you tap Save. Sharing uses the standard iPhone share sheet and goes only where you send it. Deleting a stencil from the Collection removes it from the app, and deleting the app removes the whole Collection.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no password and no email address to enter. Instead, the app creates a User ID for your device, which you can see in Settings inside the app. The User ID is a random identifier. It is not your name, your Apple ID or your email.

The User ID is used for two things: to keep your credits and subscription attached to your device (through RevenueCat, described below), and to help the developer find your purchase when you write in for support or for the free-generations reward. If you email the developer, your email address and whatever you write are used only to reply to you and resolve the request.

What does the app collect automatically?

Like most apps, Stencil AI includes a few third-party software kits that collect technical information while you use it. Depending on the kit, this may include your device model and iOS version, your IP address, the country or language your device reports, which screens you open and for how long, whether a conversion succeeded or failed, and details about a crash if one happens. The app does not collect precise location.

This information is used to understand how the app is used, to find and fix bugs, and to keep purchases working. It is not used to identify you by name.

Which third-party services does the app use?

  • Google Analytics for Firebase collects usage statistics, such as which features are used and how often, so the developer can decide what to improve.
  • Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports with the device model, iOS version and the state of the app when it crashed, so bugs can be fixed.
  • Facebook SDK is Meta's kit for measuring app installs and the results of any promotion of the app. It may receive device information and app events.
  • RevenueCat manages credits and subscriptions. It receives your User ID and the purchase receipt Apple issues, so the app knows what you own.

Each of these companies handles data under its own privacy policy, which you can find on its website. The developer chose them because they are standard tools for iPhone apps and shares with them only what is needed for the purposes above.

How do purchases work?

Every in-app purchase is bought through Apple's App Store using your Apple ID. Apple handles the payment and keeps your card or other payment details. The developer never receives them. What the developer does receive, through Apple and RevenueCat, is confirmation of what you bought, when, and which User ID it belongs to. That is what lets Restore Purchases in Settings bring your purchases back on a new phone.

What about this website?

This website is hosted on Vercel. It uses two Vercel tools: Vercel Analytics, which counts page views and shows which pages people read and roughly where visitors come from, and Vercel Speed Insights, which measures how fast the pages load. Both are cookieless and do not track you across other websites.

The website sets no cookies, has no accounts and has no forms. There is nothing to type in. The only links that lead off the site go to the App Store and to the developer's email address.

Is Stencil AI for children?

The app is rated 4+ on the App Store because it contains nothing objectionable, but it is not directed at children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the higher age that applies where you live. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app or by email, contact the developer and it will be deleted.

How is my data protected?

The upload to the cloud function travels over an encrypted connection and is authenticated and App Check-protected, so it can only be called by a genuine copy of the app. Stencils are kept in the app's own storage on your phone, behind whatever lock you use on your device. No system is perfectly secure, but the developer uses sensible, standard safeguards and limits what is collected in the first place.

What are my rights and choices?

  • Ask, correct or delete. Email the developer to ask what data is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Include your User ID if the request concerns purchases.
  • Your stencils. Delete any stencil from the Collection at any time. Deleting the app removes the entire local Collection.
  • Camera and photos. The app only sees the photos you choose. You can change its camera and photo library access in your iPhone Settings.
  • Analytics and crash reports. Uninstalling the app stops all collection by the app.
  • Legal rights. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California may give you further rights, including the right to complain to a regulator. The developer will honour those rights and reply to requests within a reasonable time.

Will this policy change?

It may. When it does, the new version is posted on this page with a new effective date at the top. Continuing to use the app or the website after a change means you accept the updated policy.
