Terms of Use
Effective date: 2026-09-26. These Terms of Use cover both the Stencil AI - Photo to Stencil iPhone app ("the app") and this website. Both are made and run by Joseph AG., an independent developer ("the developer"). They explain how in-app purchases work, how Apple handles billing, what you may upload, and what AI-generated stencils can and cannot promise. Questions go to denw3n@gmail.com.
Do I agree to these terms?
By installing or using the app, or by using this website, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app or the site. Apple's own App Store terms also apply to anything you download or buy there.
Who can use Stencil AI?
You must be old enough to enter into a binding agreement where you live, or have a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store, but it is not designed for children, and purchases require an Apple ID.
What am I allowed to do with the app?
The developer gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use the app on an iPhone you own or control, for making stencils. You may use those stencils for personal or professional work, including tattoo work, crafts and illustration.
You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app; interfere with the cloud service behind it; use scripts or automation to generate stencils; try to bypass credits, fair-use limits or App Check; or use the app to break the law or someone else's rights. The licence ends if you break these terms or delete the app.
How do credits work?
Stencil AI is free to download and your first stencil is free. After that, every generation costs one credit: one credit equals one generation. A credit is consumed when a generation completes, so a conversion that fails does not use one up. Credits come in packs bought through Apple. Prices are shown in the app, may vary by region and may change over time.
Credits are tied to your device's User ID (visible in Settings). They are non-transferable, have no cash value and cannot be given to another person. If you reinstall the app or change phones, use Restore Purchases in Settings to bring your purchases back.
Do subscriptions have usage limits?
Some in-app purchases are auto-renewing subscriptions that let you generate stencils without buying credits. Subscriptions come with a fair-use limit so that a small number of users cannot overload the service for everyone, and the current limit is shown in the app. If you reach the limit, generation pauses until the next period starts, or you can buy a credit pack in the meantime. The developer may adjust these limits and will show the current ones in the app.
How do subscriptions, billing and cancellation work?
Subscriptions are sold, billed and managed by Apple through your Apple ID. Payment is taken when you confirm the purchase, and the subscription renews automatically at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
To cancel, open your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Stencil AI. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until then. The developer cannot cancel a subscription for you; only Apple can, through those settings.
Can I get a refund?
Because Apple processes every payment, refunds are handled by Apple under its App Store refund policy. You request a refund through Apple's report-a-problem process, and Apple decides. The developer cannot issue refunds directly. If Apple refunds a purchase, the credits or subscription access it paid for may be removed.
How does the free-generations reward work?
You can earn free generations by posting a video on TikTok or Instagram that shows something you made with Stencil AI, tagging the app, and emailing the link to your post together with your User ID (from Settings) to denw3n@gmail.com. Free generations are added to your device after the developer verifies the post. Details are on the free generations page.
The developer may decline requests that are abusive, empty, misleading, duplicated or plainly made in bad faith, and may change or end the reward at any time. Free generations follow the same rules as paid credits: they are non-transferable and have no cash value.
What are the rules for photos I upload?
You may only upload photos that you own or have the right to use. That includes having permission from people who appear in a photo where the law requires it. Do not upload anything illegal, anything that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or privacy, or anything abusive, hateful or sexually exploitative.
You keep every right you have in your photos and in the stencils the app makes from them. By uploading a photo, you give the developer permission to process it for the sole purpose of generating your stencil, as described in the Privacy Policy. The developer may refuse to process, or may remove, content that violates these terms. Converting someone else's artwork into a stencil does not give you rights to that artwork, and you are responsible for how you use the result.
What should I expect from AI-generated stencils?
Stencil AI uses an AI image model, and results vary from photo to photo. Fine details may be simplified, small features may be dropped, and the likeness may not be perfect. Always check the stencil before you use it: compare it with the original, confirm the proportions and details you care about, and remember that tattoo stencils are usually mirrored before transfer, so check the orientation in the editor.
The developer does not guarantee that any stencil will be accurate, free of errors, or suitable for tattooing, cutting, painting or any other purpose. The final decision about whether and how to use a stencil is yours. For tattooing, it is the artist's professional judgement, not the app's output, that matters.
Who owns the app and the Stencil AI brand?
The app, its code, design and artwork, and the Stencil AI name and logo belong to the developer and are protected by copyright and trademark law. These terms do not give you any right in them beyond the licence above. If you send feedback or suggestions, the developer may use them without owing you anything.
Will the app always be available?
The developer works to keep Stencil AI running but cannot promise that it will always be available or free of interruptions. Generation depends on an internet connection and on cloud services that may occasionally be down. Features and in-app purchase options may change, and the app or the service may be suspended or discontinued. You are responsible for your own connection, data charges and battery use.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent the law allows, the app and the website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Some places do not allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, including lost profits, lost data or the outcome of a tattoo, craft or artwork, arising from your use of the app or the website. The developer's total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Stencil AI in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or injury caused by negligence.
Can my access be ended?
The developer may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, abuse the service or the reward, attempt to bypass credits or limits, or use the app in a harmful or unlawful way. You can stop using Stencil AI at any time by deleting the app. That removes your local Collection and does not by itself cancel a subscription with Apple. The sections on user content, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and disputes continue to apply after your access ends.
Which law applies, and what if there is a dispute?
If something goes wrong, email the developer first. Almost every problem, from a failed generation to a missing purchase, can be sorted out in good faith by email, and the developer commits to trying. These terms do not name a specific country or court. Consumer protection laws that apply where you live continue to protect you wherever they cannot be waived.
Will these terms change?
They may. Updated terms are posted on this page with a new effective date at the top, and continuing to use the app or the website after that date means you accept them.
